When an organisation goes through redundancy, three things need to be protected at the same time: the people leaving, the brand they take with them, and the commercial health of the business making the decision. Most outplacement providers protect one or two. Coach 1st is built to protect all three.
Mainstream outplacement is tiered. Senior leavers receive months of one to one coaching with experienced consultants. Mid level leavers receive a handful of sessions and a workbook. Everyone else receives a portal login, a few group webinars, and an email address to contact if they get stuck.
The leavers with the fewest options, the smallest networks, and the weakest job search confidence are usually the ones at the bottom of the tier. They need more support, not less. Tiered outplacement gives them the least.
Coach 1st takes the opposite position. Every participant receives the same programme. Same length, same number of sessions, same access to their coach, regardless of seniority or salary. The receptionist receives what the regional director receives. What changes is the content, because every programme is fully personalised. The structure is equitable. The coaching is bespoke.
Five hours of one to one career coaching per participant, delivered over six months, by an ICF accredited coach. CV development, application strategy, interview preparation, offer negotiation, and the underlying confidence work that makes all of it land.
£300 per participant. Flat fee. No tiering. No surcharges by seniority.
For a 50 person redundancy programme, Coach 1st delivers at £15,000. Comparable mainstream provision typically sits between £40,000 and £60,000. The £35,000 saving is not a marginal efficiency. For a charity, it is fundraising avoided. For a private company, it drops to the bottom line. For a shareholder owned business, at typical EBITDA multiples, it translates into £280,000 to £350,000 of enterprise value.
Same outcome. A third of the cost. None of the compromise.
Coach 1st was founded by Stuart Blake, who spent more than three decades as Managing Director in global staffing at TMP Worldwide, Greatfleet PLC, and HW Group PLC before qualifying as an ICF accredited coach. He has signed off redundancies, watched the market absorb leavers, and delivered outplacement programmes from inside an established provider. Three vantage points on the same industry over 35 years.
"Working with Stuart has been transformative for both my career and personal life. When I first reached out, I was feeling stuck and uncertain about my path forward. From our very first session, it was clear that Stuart truly understands how to help people find their way forward. His flexible style meant we could adapt our sessions based on what I needed most at any given time. Thanks to our work together, I now have a clear direction and the confidence to pursue it." Robert W, May 2025
"Having Stuart as a career coach has been instrumental in me getting a new job within 6 weeks of being made redundant. The advice and guidance he gave about writing a good job application and what makes a great CV, as well as ways to improve interview technique, was invaluable." Stephen W, January 2025
